This
Morning's Sermon
“The
POWER of Purpose”
This
morning we continue
our
new series of
lessons that
will address several
different
issues about the
church
that is revealed
in the
New Testament.
Over the
next few weeks,
we’ll
be speaking about
the nature and
purpose of the
church, the universal
and local aspects
of the church,
and what membership
in the church means.
I hope you find
it beneficial and
edifying. This
morning we’ll
ask these two
questions about
the church… What
are we supposed
to be doing?… and
how well are
we doing it?
These
two questions
point to the purposefulness
of the church,
and the rationality
of a congregation‘s
efforts to fulfill
that purpose..
The
POWER of purpose
is seen in
the nature
of God, the
life of
Christ,
and the
efforts of
the apostle
Paul.
The
purpose
of the church can be seen
in the words of Jesus
in Matthew 28:18-20.
Conclusion
Successful
congregations
are so
because
they recognize
and can
relate
the twofold
purpose
of the
church… and
then translate
that purpose
into action.
I hope
Sungarden
continues
to discover
our purpose
and that
it continues
on our
journey
to fulfill
that purpose.
About Us...
We
are a group of Christians
who use the New
Testament as the pattern
and guide for all
we do. Our goal as
a congregation is to worship,
exalt, and glorify
Jesus Christ,
not ourselves or any other
person or thing. Therefore,
our efforts are
directed toward promoting
commitment to Christ, not
to any man or institution.
Our worship
is simple, consisting
of singing,
praying, sharing
in
the
communion, and
teaching and preaching
from God's word. The
financial support
of the congregation
comes from the
free-will
offerings of
our members.
We
do not ask for
or require any contributions
from our visitors.
Contributions from our
members are used for
the spiritual growth of
this congregation and
for the support of preachers
around the world who
are preaching the gospel.
The funds collected
here are not used
for social programs
or the support
of any human institution.
The
bible teaches that the church
is designed to do only the
work God has given it to
do: teach the gospel, edify
members, and help needy Christians.
All other "good works" are
the responsibility of individual
Christians.
